I am writing one poem for every species of mammal on earth, starting with bats! Did you know that the over 1,500 species of bats make up one quarter of all mammals? And that almost every ecosystem on earth was shaped, in part, by bats? When the order CHIROPTERA (bats) is complete, I will move on to the order RODENTIA, which makes up over 40% of the world’s mammalian diversity, including squirrels, mice, rats, beavers, gophers and more.
